Pea Gravel Calculator

Calculate cubic yards, tons, and bags of pea gravel for your landscaping project.

Formula: Volume = L × W × (Depth / 12) cubic ft ÷ 27 = cubic yards. Tons = cubic yards × 1.4. Bags = cubic ft ÷ 0.5.

About the Pea Gravel Calculator

Pea gravel is one of the most versatile landscaping materials, used for pathways, driveways, garden beds, drainage, and decorative ground cover. This calculator helps you determine exactly how much pea gravel to order by computing volume in cubic yards, weight in tons, and the equivalent number of standard 0.5 cubic foot bags.

For most landscaping applications, a depth of 2 to 3 inches is recommended for pathways and decorative areas, while driveways and high-traffic areas typically require 3 to 4 inches. Pea gravel weighs approximately 1.4 tons per cubic yard, though this can vary slightly based on moisture content and the specific stone size (typically 1/8" to 3/8" diameter).

When ordering in bulk, it is generally more cost-effective to purchase by the cubic yard from a landscape supply company. For smaller projects, bags from home improvement stores may be more practical. Always order 5-10% extra to account for settling, spillage, and uneven terrain that may require additional fill.
